Mechukses!* (Greetings)

The Miwok people, made up of many seperate tribes, call the vast, heterogeneous terrain that is California their home. Settling into different areas; Marin & Sonoma Counties (Coast), Lake County (Lake), Contra Costa County (Bay), and the Sierra Nevadas/Central Valley (Sierra/Valley), the Miwoks developed language and customs sprinkled with a uniqueness to their respective regions.

To that end, this site will tend to focus more on the heritage and history of the Valley Miwoks, who at one time were the largest concentration of the four regions.

We anticipate adding more features to this category in the weeks to follow, including:
